From August 2019 to September 2020, Russia was expected to export 115 thousand metric tons of rice to other countries. However, interruptions occured in the export industry when on March 20, 2020, the country restricted cereal exports, which could be explained by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The domestic demand for this product category increased as Russian consumers were buying cereals while preparing for quarantine and self-isolation. However, the export restriction was lifted on March 24, 2020.
